The MITROPA company, established in the 20’s and split after 1945 became popular for its ceramic cups during the last years as a symbol of the collapsed GDR. They were produced by the VEB Vereinigte Porzellanwerke Colditz and designed by Margarete Jahny. After reunification, 100,000 workers moved to different companies, merging with other parts in the West and their workforce fell to less than a thousand members of staff.
