I went the first time in Halle this year, to meet a good friend, Piero Terracina, survived to the Auschwitz concentration camp, who was in town for a speech at the University. With that occasion I've made some researches and i've been around the city for a while with the car, but the weather was really bad, so I've decided to go back for a better opportunity.
Halle is a nice city, with an historical center (during the WWII was damages, but less then other German city, so it's restoration was quite fast.) and very huge plattenbau suburbs, where some of them are also abandoned and in decay (between 1990 and 2005 the city lost about 80,000 residents). The University of Halle-Wittenberg is the biggest university in Saxony-Anhalt and one of the oldest Universities in Germany.
In these pictures you can see the city center and the historical core.
